In Ephesians 3:2–9, Paul pauses to unfold the mystery that was hidden in past generations but has now been revealed in Christ. He explains the stewardship of grace given to him and draws attention to the revelation made known by the Spirit — that God’s plan has always been centred on Christ and is now clearly disclosed.
This mystery is that Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. What was once not clearly seen is now made known: God is forming one people, united in Christ. This is not a human development, but a divine revelation, grounded in God’s eternal purpose and accomplished through the work of Christ.
Paul then turns to his calling within this plan — to preach the unfathomable riches of Christ and to bring to light the administration of this mystery. The riches of Christ cannot be fully comprehended, yet they are truly known in Him. This truth is not only to be understood, but lived, as God’s people walk together in unity and faithfulness.
This passage calls us to recognise the grace we have received, to grow in our understanding of Christ, and to live as those brought together into one body, for the glory of God.
