In this passage, Paul brings his explanation of the mystery to its purpose. What was once hidden and is now revealed in Christ—that Jew and Gentile are one new people—does not end with proclamation. Paul shows that this reality is now being displayed. The church becomes the means by which God makes His wisdom known, not only on earth, but to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.

This wisdom is described as manifold—rich, multi-faceted, and unfolding across redemptive history. From the promises given, to the work of Christ, to the forming of one body out of divided peoples, God is displaying His perfect wisdom. This is not a temporary arrangement but the outworking of His eternal purpose, established before the foundation of the world and carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord. All things centre on Him, and through Him God is accomplishing His sovereign plan.

Because of Christ, believers now have boldness and confident access to the Father. This access is not grounded in human effort, but in faith in Him—resting in His finished work and trusting in His ongoing intercession. As we draw near to God, we are shaped by His presence, growing in holiness and being conformed more and more to His image.

The church, then, is not incidental but central to God’s purpose. It is the place where His wisdom is displayed, His glory is made known, and His people are drawn near to Him. Let us therefore live with reverence, faithfulness, and confidence in Christ, continually drawing near to God through Him.
