In Ephesians 2:13–18, Paul turns from the reality of separation to the work of Christ in bringing sinners near to God. Those who were once far off have now been brought near through the blood of Christ. This nearness is not achieved through human effort, but entirely through His sacrificial death, which alone makes access to God possible.

Paul then unfolds that Christ Himself is our peace. Through His death, He has removed the hostility that once divided Jew and Gentile, abolishing the law of ordinances that marked separation. In Him, two are made one—one new people, one body, united not by heritage or law, but by grace. The division is gone, and in its place stands a new creation formed through Christ.

This work of unity is ultimately grounded in reconciliation to God. Through the cross, both are brought together in one body and made at peace with the Father. Christ has not only removed division between people, but has restored sinners to God Himself, establishing true and lasting peace.

Finally, Paul shows that through Christ we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. There is no distinction in access and no difference in standing—only one way, through Christ alone. This passage calls us to consider whether we are in Him, whether we have been washed by His blood, and whether we know the peace that He alone gives.
