Ephesians 1:4-6 Chosen and Adopted by the Father

In this sermon we turn to Ephesians 1:4–6 and consider the breathtaking work of God the Father in salvation. Before the foundation of the world, God chose His people in Christ—not because of anything in them, but according to His own gracious purpose and love.

Paul shows us that the Father’s choosing was not cold or distant, but deeply personal and relational. In love, He predestined believers for adoption as sons and daughters through Jesus Christ. Salvation begins not with our decision, but with God’s eternal initiative—flowing from His character, His will, and His grace.

These verses also remind us of God’s ultimate aim: “to the praise of the glory of His grace.” Our salvation is designed to magnify God, not ourselves. The Father’s electing love humbles us, assures us, and moves us to worship as we rest in the security of belonging to His family.

This sermon helps us see that our identity is rooted in the Father’s loving plan, our confidence rests in His unchanging purpose, and our response is joyful praise for His glorious grace in Christ.
