In Ephesians 1:3–14, Paul bursts into praise for the God who has blessed His people with every spiritual blessing in Christ. In this message, we focus on Ephesians 1:10–12, where Paul explains the inheritance believers have received in Christ — an inheritance that is certain, gracious, and rooted entirely in God’s eternal purpose.

Using a clear, question-driven structure, the sermon unfolds through four key movements:

  • Identifying the People — Who is Paul referring to when he speaks of those who first hoped in Christ?

  • Understanding the Inheritance — What does it mean to “obtain an inheritance,” and how would Jewish believers have understood this language?

  • The Certainty and Purpose of the Inheritance — How can Paul be so sure, and why does God do this?

  • The Wider Implication — Why does Paul single out the Jewish believers, and what does this reveal about God’s saving plan?

Along the way, we are reminded that salvation and inheritance are not earned, deserved, or rooted in human distinctiveness, but flow entirely from God’s sovereign will — all to the praise of His glory.

This passage calls us to lift our eyes from ourselves and fix them on Christ, recognising that our greatest inheritance is not what we receive, but the One to whom we belong.
