Having emphasized the unity of the church Paul now turns to the diversity that exists within Christ’s body. Every believer has received grace from Christ and has been entrusted with gifts to serve His people. These gifts are not self-chosen or self-earned, but are sovereignly distributed by the Lord according to His wisdom and purpose.
In this message, we explore Paul’s use of Psalm 68 and see how the ascended Christ is presented as the victorious King who distributes the spoils of His victory to His people. Paul also shows that Christ is greater than Moses. Moses received and delivered the Law, but Christ has ascended to the throne of God and now gives His Spirit and gifts to build His church.
Ultimately, these gifts point us to the triumph of Christ. The One who descended from heaven, humbled Himself, conquered sin, death, and Satan through His death and resurrection, and ascended far above all heavens now reigns as King. From His throne He equips His people for service and the building up of His church.
Every believer has received grace from Christ. Every believer has a place in His body. The question is not whether we have a gift, but whether we are faithfully using what our victorious King has entrusted to us for His glory.
