In Ephesians 4:1-2, Paul turns from doctrine to duty. Having spent the first three chapters unfolding the riches of God’s saving grace in Christ, he now urges believers to live in a manner worthy of their calling. The Christian life is not merely about what we believe, but how those truths shape the way we walk before God and others.

Paul reminds believers of the greatness of their calling in Christ. Through God’s grace we have been adopted into His family, made heirs with Christ, entrusted as His ambassadors, and called to live for His glory. Yet Paul also recognises our ongoing need for God’s grace and the empowering work of the Holy Spirit as we seek to walk faithfully.

The first characteristic Paul highlights is humility. These qualities are not simply actions to perform but attitudes produced by the Spirit. True humility sees sin honestly, considers others more important than ourselves, looks to Christ as the perfect example, and gives all glory to God rather than self.

May this passage encourage us to walk worthy of our calling, growing in humility as we reflect the character of Christ and depend upon His grace each day.
